  • Session One (Chapter 1): UnPacking the Can of Worms
Did you know there are QUITE A FEW righteousness scriptures in the Book of Job? There’s a reason for that — and the purpose of this study. But, mention JOB, and you’ve opened a can of worms. Discussions among believers (or even non-believers) on topics regarding pain and suffering, and someone is bound to ask: What about Job? This is a good question — but not where we need to start. Let’s start with, What about God? or What about human nature? before we pick on Job
  • Session Two (Chapters 2-3): Out of the Abundance of the Heart
Christians go through the motions every day, saying and doing the right thing because that’s what we’ve been trained to do. Job is no different. But as with all of us, over time, when adversity comes and stays awhile, the mouth begins to reveal what's been hiding in the crevices of our heart.
  • Session Three (Chapters 4-5): Issues of the Heart

Let’s be honest, Job’s attitude up until now hasn’t been very humble — as we will continue to see. And some might argue, “Well, isn’t it because he’s mad at what happened to him?” No doubt... but is that an excuse? (Is bad food/service at a restaurant excuse for rudeness?) Remember God’s Word: "Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility" (Proverbs 18:12).

  • Session Four (Chapters 6-7): Double-Minded

When people don’t understand God’s ways, a common response is “He’s God; He can do what He wants.” True — but be clear, God won’t lie and He won’t contradict Himself (even if you think He does because you lack knowledge or understanding, not understanding His thoughts or ways). God’s Word is His will. It is our guide in life, and therefore very necessary -- the only way to know His thoughts and ways.

  • Session Five (Chapters 8-9): Time For Truth

For centuries, people have come up with all kinds of reasons that sound good in theory as to why Job experienced so much loss. But theories that contradict the rest of God’s Word, and more specifically, His character, are false. And it's important to note in this part of our story, how God didn’t show up until Truth was finally spoken.

  • Session Six (Chapters 10-11): The Intended End

God is light, and in His presence all things are revealed. And in the magnificent light of God’s presence, Job is humbled and can now see the dark areas of self-righteousness that unintentionally crept into his heart. "You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful."
